Remote learning - Electronics
Gresham’s is now offering GCSE Electronics to students and adults in the local area in an exciting new community initiative which will allow students an opportunity to study for an additional and valuable GCSE qualification via the School’s Virtual Learning Environment.
Through collaboration with local secondary schools, a number of gifted and talented pupils will gain access to all the resources and skills of the Gresham’s Electronics Department. This opportunity will also be provided to adults in the local community and parents of current students.
Jonathon Bartlett, Head of Electronics at Gresham’s said, “Electronics is a relatively rare subject in secondary schools yet one which offers unique opportunities for students across the ability range, thanks to the mixture of theory and practical work and its unusual scope for individual project design. With the advent of Virtual Learning Environments and almost universal internet access it is now possible to offer educational resources to students not physically present at the School.”
The course splits neatly into theoretical and practical aspects. Theory will be delivered via the Moodle VLE already being produced for use with Gresham’s students, which allows full use of video, simulation, discussion activities and interactive quizzes. This will be complemented by a weekly practical session at the School.
For students of local comprehensive schools, Gresham’s will pay the exam entry fees. For adults in the local community, the exam entry fees will be paid by the students themselves but this would be the only charge payable by these students.
