Learning Support

Our teachers are always happy to see children out of class time to tackle difficulties and offer support, but in order for us to meet the needs of each child, we offer Learning Support classes for anyone in need of extra help.

Our Learning Support Departments cater for pupils with a variety of learning difficulties including dyslexia, dyscalculia, sensory impairments and low self-esteem.  Students receive one-to-one tuition from qualified and experienced teachers, undertaking personally structured lessons which aim to tackle areas of particular difficulty while boosting confidence in their abilities. We also teach in small groups and give support in the classroom.

The Learning Support Departments also work closely with students whose first language is not English. We can offer extra instruction in small groups, allowing students to develop their knowledge and support each other in a caring and comfortable environment.  Groups will often spend time reinforcing previous lessons and preparing for upcoming classes.

At the Senior School, our principal aim is to improve pupils’ communicative competence in both productive and receptive skills and to prepare them, where appropriate, for the IGCSE (E2L) and IELTS English examinations.

Some students may require learning support throughout their entire career at Gresham’s while others may only require extra help occasionally.  We do our utmost to offer assistance which best matches the needs of the student, striving to help each child excel.  Many students receiving learning support will go on to achieve impressive GCSE and A level results, and we take pride in their achievements.

The Learning Support Departments are located in  quiet parts of the school and offer  comfortable and well-equipped settings.  We aim to help every child be the best they can be, and our Learning Support system provides the tools to help each child reach their full potential.
