Individual Care
Maintaining an atmosphere of kindness, openness and respect in our community is one of our most important priorities; we hope that every child feels happy and well supported, and finds it easy to communicate when problems arise.
Each child, whether a boarder or a day pupil, is a member of either Crossways House (for girls) or Kenwyn House (for boys). The House System promotes a sense of community and team spirit, in addition to providing an important infrastructure for support and guidance.
Our Housemasters and Housemistresses take personal responsibility for the wellbeing of each child in their House, and children are encouraged to approach them with any concerns or problems they may face. Each House also has two Matrons who are responsible for medical treatment and who give tender, loving care when it is needed. Older children can also become Prefects and Dormitory Captains, acting as role models and helping to guide the younger ones.
Each child also has a tutor whom they see in the Tutor Period, five times a week. Tutors help with everyday problems in addition to monitoring academic progress and flagging up concerns when they arise. We encourage children to set realistic targets and to focus on achieving their aims.
