GCSE
Students begin the two-year GCSE curriculum in Year 10. This generally comprises 6 compulsory units (English Language, English Literature, Maths, Science and a foreign language), plus four ‘option’ subjects, which pupils can select according to their interests.
We encourage students to pursue a balanced curriculum in the GCSE years; our students can make the most of our broad range of subject options and have ample opportunity to enrich their education.
Classes range in size in these years, with the average group holding about fifteen students. Compulsory units are taught in groups determined by ability, allowing students to develop at a rate consistent with their strengths and capabilities.
GCSE examinations take place at the close of Year 11. These exams play an important role in a student’s progression to A-levels, and considerable attention is devoted to preparation and guidance at the onset of exams.
