2nd XI hockey girls competed at the Regional Championships
17 November 2021

Having qualified as Norfolk champions in the Tier 4 competition, with wins over Wymondham 1st XI and Norwich School 2nd XI, the team were full of confidence heading in the Regional finals. They headed down to Cambridge very much as underdogs however, as they were the only 2nd XI in the competition (the other 9 teams all 1st XIs). A tough start against a strong RHS 1st XI brought a 3-0 defeat, but the girls were still upbeat. They then drew 0-0 with Bishop Stortford College 1st XI, with some great saves by young stopper Romilly H. The third game was their big chance, and the girls stepped up to defeat Wisbech Grammar 1st XI 1-0, with a lovely combination move between captain Tanya P and Honor S. Our final game against Bancroft’s ended in defeat, but the girls continued to express themselves well throughout. This was a great development opportunity for the girls and fitting reward for all the hard work this young team has put in over the course of the season.
