A level historians follow Wars of the Roses debate
9 March 2021

Lower Sixth A level historians studying the Wars of the Roses were treated to 90 minutes of animated debate in a live YouTube broadcast between four leading historians of the fifteenth century chaired by Thomas Dennis of ‘Swipin Thru History’. Pro-Yorkist historians Mike Ingram and Matt Lewis took on Lancastrian and Tudor advocates Nathen Amin and Nicola Tallis in a fiercely contested encounter. The issues explored included whether the Wars of the Roses were inevitable, how significant a figure was Margaret Beaufort, was Richard III a good king and how much of the history of the fifteenth century was written by the Tudors. This was a very illuminating and entertaining debate, and our historians are very much looking forward to the next instalment.
