Careers provide talks on STEAM related jobs

Careers have had a very productive term working with the OG Development Team to reach out and embrace the superb OG Network for future talks embracing job roles in Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Maths. There are many OGs doing such a diverse range of roles including Engineering with McLaren Racing; Technology with Arm; Cambridge; Tech Start Ups; Sound Engineering; DNA Medical Research; Environmental Consultant; Gallery Administrator at Saatchi Yates; Transport Logistics with Coca Cola; Computer Science with JP Morgan, to name but a few. This is an exciting line up to inspire and inform our pupils.

As part of the Upper Sixth Next Step talks, Careers had sessions on:

Interview Skills presented by David Godber, who has had a career in the energy industry and in the automotive sector. Throughout his career David has interviewed thousands of candidates. He shared his some of his tips for what constitutes a good interview approach. David was introduced to Gresham’s Careers by Kerry Dugan, Head of HR at Gresham’s, as they had both worked together at Lotus.

CVs linking to getting an interview presented by Phillip Page, Executive Director of Emerging Talent at Investment Bank JP Morgan. Phillip gave an excellent interactive presentation and shared the fact that an experienced recruiter will scan a CV in 6 seconds! Phillip was introduced to Gresham’s Careers by OG Zara Raslan who is doing a Degree Apprenticeship with JP Morgan.

LinkedIn – the benefits of using and embracing the platform, presented by OG Nathan Lomax. Nathan gave an inspirational presentation showcasing the benefits of using LinkedIn for building a profile, how to network and embrace the OG network on LinkedIn and to reach out and ask for help.

Finance – OG Stephen Oldfield, Gresham’s Governor and recently retired senior partner with PwC gave a hugely helpful, informed talk about finance including debit and credit cards; insurance; credit checks; bad credit; loans; budgeting; self employment and employment.

The talks were superb, as were the Upper Sixth pupils who were keen, interested, confident and asked lots of questions.

On Friday 11th June, the Year 12 Conference took place with a range of speakers giving talks on some of the options available post Sixth Form, including talks on how to choose your degree course and university; student finance; degree apprenticeships; Army Officer recruitment at Sandhurst; art school & creative degrees; OGs talking about their gap year; studying overseas and studying in the UK as an international pupil.

All talks were designed to help our pupils with information and give advice on pathways.
