24 Hour Triathlon – From Holt to Helsinki

55_Howsons-TriathlonThe boys of Howson’s (and some intrepid staff) recently took part in a 24-hour triathlon to raise money for the School charity, The Olpalagilagi Primary School in Kenya and for Walkoncemore, a new charity close to the heart of an old boy and ex-Captain of Howson’s  Will Harris (H 2003-08).  Walkoncemore aims to raise money to help support individuals with spinal cord injuries and to support future research.

56_Howsons-Triathlon2An exercise bike, a rowing machine and a cross-trainer were set up and the common room was turned into a gym with the aim of covering the same distance from Holt to Helsinki.  All the boys manned the machines for 30-minute sessions, and they managed a total of 895 kilometres. This wasn’t quite to Helsinki – another four hours in the saddle would have seen the boys there – but it was a magnificent effort nonetheless. They hope to have raised over £500 in sponsorship.  All the boys said, “Same again next month?”  I said, “Next year!”
