Book Week

Last week the children and staff of the Nursery and Pre-Prep took part in Book Week where a range of book and literacy activities took place, with a particular focus on fairy tales. On Tuesday, the children got together in their four houses to produce a collage of a fairy tale to put on a display board around the School. The Blue House did The Three Little Pigs, Green House did the Three Billy Goats Gruff, Yellow House did The Elves and the Shoemaker and Red House made a scene from Hansel and Gretel.  The House activities give a chance for children from a range of year groups to work collaboratively and also allow the teachers to work with different children and are always very popular.

Wednesday was a very exciting day; not only was it dressing up day, but the School had a visitor from the Norfolk Children’s Book Centre. The children and staff came to school in fairy tale costumes. There were some beautiful princesses in their ball gowns, and a few boys dressed as  Prince Charming, along with some wolves and wicked queens to balance out all the good characters. Some people were very imaginative with their costumes and props; there was even a pumpkin ready to take Cinderella to the ball! After a very exciting assembly, where we all got to admire each other’s outfits, each year group got to listen to some stories read by our visitor. Tom from the book centre had selected some of his favourite stories to read in a session with each year group. He then hosted an extremely popular book sale in the hall after school, when the children and their parents had a chance to look at and buy a huge range of books.

On Friday, the children once again got together in their houses to compete in a book quiz. Other activities during the week have included visits to the Prep School library and having parents come in to read stories to the children. It was a fantastic week and it is great to see the young children so enthusiastic about reading and books.
