Half term round up from the Music department

Academic music lessons, individual music lessons, some instrumental and choral ensembles have moved to an online platform and regardless of location or time difference, music at Gresham’s continues around the world.  It has been a joy to see and all credit to our academic and peripatetic staff, not to mention the pupils themselves who have embraced this temporary ‘normal’. All years continue their class music lessons which have produced some extraordinary examples of creativity and ingenuity.

Senior Percussion Ensemble on a Thursday is well worth ‘gate crashing’. No drums? A saucepan and wooden spoon will do!   Mr Coleman puts Chapel choir through their paces during the week, Mrs Wolfe, swaps her ‘classroom’ for rehearsal space and takes concert band, Pop Choir and Edinburgh Girls’ Choir too.  Mr Curtis has been working with some of our musicians to produce several wonderful music videos.  On a daily basis, piano, brass, woodwind, string, bagpipe and percussion lessons liven up pupils’ neighbourhoods – how many parents are regretting their child’s choice of instrument?! Individual music lessons will continue online after half term.

Every Friday morning at 8.25am the entire school community are warmly invited to join us for a congregational singing practice, lead by Mr Coleman from the Britten Building and there is a moment of reflection. We very much look forward to seeing you there.
