On Saturday 30th November, the Gresham’s Rifle Club travelled to Bisley for the annual British Schools Winter Open. Gresham’s took a very senior team with a huge amount of experience and ability to the match.
There were 192 competitors representing 15 different schools from around the country, with all of the ‘big’ shooting schools present. Each individual had to shoot four times, to give a total out of 400. The handful of newer shots that we took to the match all shot very well, and Tyler Munro shot way beyond her three months of experience to finish 55th in the Individual. It was the senior members of the team however, that really showed their talent. Alex Todd was 12th out of the 192, Mac Woodcock was 6th, Toby Cubitt was 2nd and Ben Danziger won the British Schools Individual Championships with a superb score of 390 (x400). Having the top two individuals on the day also meant that Gresham’s won the ‘Pairs’ Competition and we also narrowly won the ‘Team of IV’ competition by just 1 point. The ‘Team of VIII’ competition is the one to win and Gresham’s beat Wellington College by nearly 20 points to become the British Schools National Small-Bore Champions for 2019/20.
A huge congratulations to all members of the Rifle Club but particularly to those that represented the Team of VIII.
