‘An inspirational experience which I look forward to every year’ sums up perfectly our pupils’ feelings about playing with the European Chamber Orchestra. On Tuesday 3rd March the orchestra returned for its annual visit with trumpeter Crispian Steele-Perkins to do workshops and give a performance as part of the Subscription Concert series.
During the afternoon, Crispian delighted Senior and Prep School pupils with a talk on the history of the trumpet, complete with many demonstrations and offered advice to those pupils who then played for him. The Strings players, meanwhile, were busy rehearsing with the orchestra ahead of their performance of Grieg’s Elegiac Melodies.
The concert, which also included music by Handel, Haydn and Holst was attended by a large and ever-appreciative audience who return on a yearly basis to listen to what is surely one of the world’s top chamber orchestras. Roll on next year!
