Cadets have enjoyed a varied training programme over the term, focusing on completing elements of their basic and advanced syllabus. All cadets have done some drill as well as teamwork activities. In addition, the Army Section cadets have been instructed in the use of the cadet weapon systems and infantry skills, Royal Air Force cadets have had opportunities to participate in flying and gliding sessions, and Navy cadets have had time ‘afloat’ in the school pool. Senior cadets have enhanced their leadership and instructional skills with some Year 11 cadets successfully completing a junior leadership course during the half term break (a further course is being run over February half term to cope with the additional demand for places). The REME section have made excellent progress on their vehicle maintenance in the workshop garages and a new cohort of lifeguards are undergoing their rigorous training course. Cadets also participated in several Remembrance events, a full school service to remember the WWI Armistice and a large number of the Contingent joining the Sunday parade in Holt. Cadets are looking forward to competing in the Air Squadron Trophy in the New Year and enjoying adventurous training events, with Contingent weekends in the Peak District already being fully subscribed and the fantastic courses at the Cadet Centre for Adventurous Training becoming more popular (see www.armycadetadventure.co.uk for details).
