Happy National Poetry Day!

The Prep School celebrated National Poetry Day (Thursday 3rd October) in style! Spreading our celebrations over three days inviting three poets in residence to work with pupils, so that every single pupil was treated to a poetry workshop with a published poet.

Molly Naylor (who will be appearing on BBC1 as she has been commissioned by the BBC to write a poem to celebrate Norwich) inspired pupils in Years 5, 6,7 and 8 to write poems and see metaphors ‘as their friend’ and that poetry ‘is all about capturing a moment.’ Pupils wrote poems on topics from puppies, to climate change.

Phil Barrett worked with pupils in Years 3 and 4 to produce poems about themselves taking his lead from the National Poetry Day’s theme of ‘Truth.’

Jonathan Ward worked with our Year 8 pupils to analyse poetry and tease out the golden nuggets of language and poetic device. He inspired lots of thoughtful discussion and pushed pupils to ready delve into poetry rather than be afraid of it!

Parents also joined in the celebrations as they were invited to the ‘Phil Barrett in a Poetry Workshop’ in the evening.
