This event involves boys and girls’ medley and freestyle relays and is attended by many schools from all over the country.

Freestyle relays

Girls’ (4 x 50m) – The girls’ team qualified for the final with a time of 2.07 05 in 9th place, then smashed their time by nearly a second finishing 7th over all with a time of 2.06 09.

Boys (4 x 100m) – The boys team swam a good race with a time of 4.17 74 giving them 13th position overall in the qualifying heats but not gaining a place in the final.

Medley Relays

Girls (4 x 50m) –  After the excitement of qualifying in the freestyle relay the girls’ were all set to try to gain a place in the medley finals as well, they swam in the qualifying heat and finished first with a time of 2.25 50 which would have given them a place in the final but unfortunately we learned that they had been disqualified due to an early takeover during the relay.

Boys (4 x 50m) – The boys were determined to get into the final in the medley relay and were successful with a qualifying time of 2.09 39, then improved in the final finishing in 7th position with a time of 2.08 34.

The swimming team had an amazing day and everybody was so happy with what they achieved, as with all sports there are many hours of training over many months in preparation for these events, so getting into the top ten teams to gain a place in the final was a great achievement.

It has been over ten years since Gresham’s has had a girls’ team in the finals at this event and considering the teams are also very young with only two out of the ten swimmers in Year 13 and the other swimmers ranging from Year 9 to Year 11, I am very excited to watch the teams develop over the next few years.
