Some of our talented netball players spent the day with Pamela Cookey, former England Captain and current netball commentator on Sky TV.
Pamela started the day with a presentation on her ‘double life’ – an inspirational talk about balancing academic work alongside sport, and how both compliment the other. She talked about her battles with injury, and not being as tall as most netballers; she was inspirational!
The rest of the day was made up of active workshops: fitness ideas, warm-ups, ball skills, as well as more detailed sessions on toughness, balance, and rotating the ball in the circle.
At the end of the day, there was a short presentation where Pamela named two mentees who will have Pamela’s support via Skype and email for the next six months. The two lucky girls selected were Esme Papworth (Q) and Florence Kemp (E). Pamela also presented ‘highly commended’ medals to Emma Woodhouse (Q) and Rosie Ringer (O). She was full of praise for the girls who worked extremely well all day. At the end of the session, Daisy O Hanlon (O) delivered a lovely thank you to Pamela and the Mintridge Events teams.
It was a great day, organised by Alex Paske (E 2004 – 08) of Mintridge Events, and we hope it kicks off an exciting season of netball.
