School Archives acquires military swagger stick

Thanks to keen-eyed OG Richard Jefferson we have recently purchased from EBAY a Gresham’s OTC swagger stick to add to the collection.  The wooden stick has a silver handle bearing the figure of Britannia and the Gresham’s OTC name.  There is an incomplete one currently with the OTC which has the name of OG Mark Wathes(1935-39) whose name appears on the WWII list of fallen.  We believe the sticks were purely ceremonial in purpose and carried by officers under the arm, and a recent enquirer concerning School Chaplain Rev Edward Habershon suggested that WWI military chaplains went over the top carrying only their swagger stick and Bible!
