Little Grasshoppers Nursery
In September 2017 we welcomed two year olds into our Little Grasshoppers Nursery. These littlest grasshoppers joined our current nursery goers – three and four year olds – in our safe and stimulating environment.
A happy home from home
The Little Grasshoppers Nursery is located within Gresham’s Pre-Prep building – a Grade II Listed building that overlooks playing fields and is conveniently situated in Holt town centre. Sharing all of the school’s facilities, including the vast grounds, 200 acres in all, and swimming pool, the nursery offers endless opportunities for little explorers’ adventures.
A Gresham’s education is classed as ‘Excellent’ across all nine possible categories and for all parts of the school, and our Little Grasshoppers Nursery is no exception.
Our experienced and qualified nursery staff create an environment where each little grasshopper is well-known, feels content in his or her surroundings, and has fun with their friends.
A typical day will see the children learning, exploring, creating and developing their individual personalities as they discover new capabilities and interests each day – whether they attend on a part-time or full-time basis.
Our little grasshoppers will enjoy learning something new every day simply through guided play providing an excellent platform from which children can later embark on their more formal learning as Pre-Prep pupils with confidence. From the age of 3, there are opportunities to try languages, including French and Spanish with specialist teachers and to experience learning in the open air with our Outdoor Wild Learning Squad (OWLS).
Taking care of the finer details
We know that as parents of young children there are so many aspects of your child’s day to consider, from their safety and happiness, to their diet and opportunities for positive interactions with other children and adults.
This is why at Little Grasshoppers Nursery we consider the finer details.
- Class sizes are small. Eight or less at the age of 2.
- All of the food we provide to children across the school is prepared by Chartwells, a renowned school catering company.
- Our team consists of qualified Early Years Foundation Stage specialists responsible for overseeing all of our little grasshoppers’ activities.
- Team members are all enthusiastic and passionate about providing our children with a balanced environment, in which to promote positive behaviours and each child’s self-esteem, alongside developing a sense of security and genuine friendships.

I have been lucky enough to be a part of the Gresham’s Pre-Prep team for just over a year. In September, I will start the final year of my BA (Hons) degree in Childhood Studies. Before joining the Pre-Prep, I worked in a local state school during my gap year and then went on to travel during the summer, before becoming a volunteer at Gresham’s. I am passionate about my job and love helping children to thrive during their time at the Pre-Prep.
Miss A Colman Teaching Assistant (3-4 year olds)
Amy studied at Sheringham Sixth Form from 2009 and left in 2011 having completed 3 A levels in Maths, Biology and Art, as well as an AS level in Psychology. She discovered her passion was working with children soon after and was determined to make this passion a reality. She began her Level 2 in Supporting Teaching and Learning in schools and took a placement at Holt Primary School in the reception class. After completing this she was offered a position at Gresham’s Pre-Prep working full time in the nursery where they helped her start her Level 3 Diploma Early Years Educator which she is set to finish at the end of this year. She then hopes to continue onto level 4 in the new year.
Katie Amey Teaching Assistant
I have worked in different early years settings over the last four years and I am very excited to be starting at Gresham’s in September 2018. I graduated from the University of Chichester with a BA honours degree in Early Childhood Studies. In my own time, I enjoy playing sports, reading, going to the cinema, walking my dog Alfie and most of all spending time with my lovely family.
Clare Clabon Teaching Assistant
I am a Norfolk girl who qualified as a Secondary PE and Science teacher in 1996, I then taught in Norfolk for 3 years secretly wishing I had qualified as a Primary teacher. After having three children of my own who are all now at Gresham’s and aged 16,15 and 7, I have decided to jump back into education. We farm near Mundesley, so spend lots of time walking our dogs around the fields and on the beach, I also enjoy pilates and spending time with my big family!
We would be delighted for you and your little grasshopper to visit us and experience a typical day at Little Grasshoppers Nursery.
