On Sunday 16th February, the Rifle Club had its annual fixture against the Old Gresham’s Rifle Team which, as always, was a hugely enjoyable event.
For a good number of the OG’s at the match this is the only occasion, during the course of the year, that they actually fire a small-bore rifle, which makes it even more impressive that they are able to shoot such excellent scores. There was a great turn out by the OG’s and an equally impressive spread of ages, with the oldest having left Gresham’s in 1969 and the youngest only having left last year.
In what can only be described as pretty awful conditions, the best performance at the match was by Toby C who managed to score the only perfect 100 on his way to a 196 ex. 200. The OG’s had a cluster of firers who all scored 194 ex. 200 and this meant that the OG’s went on to win the match by just five points. Gresham’s scored 1316 to the OG’s 1321. After the match, both teams enjoyed an excellent lunch in the local pub and the OG’s were able to share stories from their time at Gresham’s with the current team.
