Our girls U15 cricket team won the County Cup semi-final

On Monday 28th June, 11 girls travelled to Wymondham for the Semi-Final of the U15 County Cup. The opposition had just won the county softball cricket cup and were looking to achieve a clean sweep of county silverware. Our girls played their best cricket of the season and came out very worthy winners, scoring 106 for 4 in our 20 overs and skittling Wymondham for just 45 runs in 12 overs.

Madison H-M top scored with 29, including the match’s only boundary on the somewhat oversized Wymondham First XI pitch, while Charlotte G and Zara U-B scored 18 each. Felicity B carried her bat for a strong finish.

Poppy G took 3 wickets for 4 runs off her two overs, and our strength in depth was evident in the fact that 5 other bowlers took a wicket apiece: captain Charlotte T, Charlotte G, Madison H-M, Sophie L and Poppy G. Tilly R was very unlucky to miss out on bowling, as we ran out of batters to bowl at; her excellent season to date suggests she would also have got amongst the wickets.

Particularly strong in the field, not a single catch was dropped. Catches were taken by Sophie L, Poppy G (off her twin sister’s bowling), Madison H-M took a caught and bowled, and Gracie C took a remarkable 3 catches at short mid-wicket – a fourth not counting due to a no-ball.

Katie B had a quiet game by her standards. The leading wicket-taker across all girls’ cricket, she also has the term’s most remarkable figures from her performance away at RHS: 2 overs bowled, 5 wickets – including a hat-trick in a triple-wicket maiden – for only 1 run.

The team will progress to the Final in our first ever girls’ cricket tournament, most likely to be played in September.
