Our music scholars have been learning from excellent musicians

Our music scholars have been busy learning from excellent musicians this week. On Saturday 7th May, they were treated to a masterclass by the flautist Scarlett Askew, who is a recent graduate of the postgraduate course at Trinity Laban. This is the first in a termly series of masterclasses designed to immerse our pupils in the possibilities and opportunities that can be found within the performing arts, working alongside skilled performers and professionals. Scarlett worked with Kate W (Yr 13 E), Grace H (Yr 12 O) and Jemima A (Yr 7), all of whom performed beautifully and were warmly supported by their peers. A special mention must go to Jemima who was incredibly brave to take part as a Year 7, playing in front of the Senior School scholars.

Following on from Scarlett’s masterclass, the scholars attended a lunchtime recital in Chapel. A professional ensemble, including the School’s own Mark Jones, Head of Chapel Music on piano, performed a Piano Trio by Dvorak to the captivated audience. It was a musical treat and a wonderful way to inspire our pupils to continue practising hard!
