RSHE welcome ‘It Happens Education’ to compliment lessons
1 July 2021

This term ‘It Happens Education’ has worked with us to compliment our Relationships, Sex and Health Education here at the Senior School. Amy from ‘It Happens’ spoke to Year 9 PSHE classes about healthy relationships, consent and the law, delaying sexual activity, sharing images and peer pressure. She also delivered her ‘Moving On’ talk to Year 13 students as part of the Year 13 post-exam programme, covering a range of topics to help our young people stay safe in the big world beyond school. Topics included: the adolescent brain and risk; partying and festivals; travelling and gap years; uni and freshers week; a recap on sexual health and how to access services away from home.
In the last week of term, parents were invited to attend a webinar with Laura from ‘It Happens’, where they had the opportunity to find out more about the national picture on RSHE, explore the new Statutory Requirements for schools and also be supported in continuing vital conversations about relationships and sexual health at home. A parents’ survey was conducted prior to the webinar to give Laura insight into any specific concerns felt by our parent body, enabling her then to tailor her talk and make it specific to us. As a result, she delivered a superb talk that was both interesting and informative.
RSHE lessons form part of our PSHE and Wellbeing programmes, but additional input from external speakers and related professionals is always welcome.
We look forward to working more with ‘It Happen Education’ in the future.
