Scholars and Choirs provided an enjoyable evening of live music

What a joy it was to be able to invite an audience back into Chapel on Friday 1 October and to programme an evening of live music. This concert, the first of the new academic year, is designed to encourage and showcase our best musicians and, along with Chapel Choir and Schola Cantorum, some of our music award holders were able to demonstrate their ability. Such choral standards as O thou the Central Orb, impressively accompanied by Year 11 pupil Louis H C, on the organ and  I was Glad were counterbalanced by Schola singing a medley from West Side Story which many of the audience mouthed along to. Their chance was to come however with a rousing version of When the Saints with audience participation. Our instrumentalists ranged from Year 9 – 13 and included memorable performances on violin, flute, marimba, piano, electric guitar and clarinet as well as some fine solo singing. A very approving audience showed their appreciation and the lively atmosphere in Chapel in the interval was proof of what we had all been missing over the past few months. The standard of music gave an exciting insight into what can be expected over the course of the year.
