Music

Music in all its forms plays a central role in all our lives at Gresham’s.

At Gresham’s every member of the school is involved in making music, and is exposed to music of all different styles and for many different occasions.  We are able to broaden the interest and experience of all pupils during their time here, whatever level of participation they currently enjoy. Every member of the community participates in the House Music competitions and sings each week in Chapel. Many have individual music lessons, play in the various ensembles and sing in the choirs.

For those taking instrumental lessons we offer superb practice and performance opportunities with a term of well-qualified, experienced and supportive staff. We are hugely fortunate in having brand new purpose-build facilities in our wonderful new Britten Building (named after Old Greshiamian, Benjamin Britten). For those who are dipping their toe in music for the first time, we offer the right kind of support and encouragement, making music engaging and fun for all. For high flying instrumental or academic musicians we offer both a bespoke learning experience and advice and support in placing them in the right establishments when they leave.

If you are considering Gresham’s I hope you will be able to come and see us at one of our many concerts, meet our musicians and have a tour of the Britten Building.  I am always delighted to hear from prospective musicians, and for those considering a music scholarship I can advise on the application process and preparation. I very much look forward to hearing from you.
