Music in all its forms plays a central role in all our lives at Gresham’s.
At Gresham’s every member of the school is involved in making music, and is exposed to music of all types and styles. We are able to broaden the interest and experience of all pupils during their time here, whatever level of participation they currently enjoy. Every member of the community participates in the House Music competitions, and sings each week in Chapel. Many have individual music lessons, play in the various ensembles and sing in the choirs.
For those taking instrumental lessons we offer the right environment, practice and performance opportunities in our wonderful new Britten Building (named after Old Greshiamian, Benjamin Britten), and the encouragement so that they can attain their potential at school. For those high flying instrumental or academic musicians we offer advice and support in placing them in the right establishments when they leave, and ensure the right teaching and time for their work whilst here.
We are very fortunate to have the new Britten Building, officially opened by the Princess Royal, at our disposal. Filled with Steinway pianos; together with our excellent staff we offer first-class facilities and tuition.
If you are considering Gresham’s I hope you will be able to come and see us at one of our many concerts, and come and look around the Britten Building. For those considering applying for a music scholarship, may I suggest having an informal meeting? I will be happy to offer some advice to help preparation for the scholarship auditions.
