Sport has always been considered an integral part of education at Gresham’s and the school has earned an enviable reputation for the quality of its sport.
We believe in educating the ‘whole person’ and seek to cultivate healthy and committed team players who value the importance of collaboration and leadership.
We encourage all students to become involved in many of the various sports we offer, and we benefit from an enviable reputation in hockey, rugby, cricket, netball and shooting. However, above all else we seek to help pupils make the most of their sporting abilities in a fun and healthily competitive environment. Taking part is a big part of School life.
Teams compete on a weekly basis throughout the year, with Saturday fixtures played against other major independent schools across the region. The latest list of fixtures and results are available via a link at the bottom of this page. Many of our pupils have competed at national and international levels with the International Rugby players, Tom and Ben Youngs being one of our more recent exports.
Our sporting facilities include floodlit astro-turf pitches, 25-metre indoor swimming pool, large sports hall, over 30 tennis courts, an indoor 8-lane shooting range, seven rugby pitches, netball and squash courts, weights and fitness room, an athletics track and a cross-country course. A new sports pavilion has been completed in June 2014 to further enhance the facilities on offer at the school. Other sports offered in one or all of our schools include badminton, cross-country, football, fencing, sailing, squash, swimming and tennis, along with other optional activities including aerobics, basketball, golf, horse-riding, mountain-biking, kick-boxing, street-dance, table-tennis and trampolining.
