From the moment they arrive at Gresham’s, our pupils are encouraged to express themselves and explore their world through the media of dance, drama, music and the visual arts.
Opportunities to perform and create abound from the earliest age, and experimentation is encouraged. There are ample opportunities for those interested in the technical aspects of theatre. Recent performances have included Sondheim’s Follies, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Les Miserables and an adaptation of Philip Pullman’s His Dark Materials novels.
We have a proud tradition of educating artists; sculptor and painter Ben Nicholson, film director Stephen Frears and actresses Olivia Colman and Miranda Raison are among our alumni. We put on regular exhibitions at Gresham’s through the school’s Nicholson Gallery where both pupils and visiting artists can exhibit their work.
“Superb exhibition space, lots to feast the eyes on – a really dynamic place to develop a talent.”
The Good Schools Guide
The Auden Theatre provides an ideal venue for performance, offering a professional and versatile space. The range, scale and variety of performances to which our pupils have access provide a richness which makes us truly unique. Our Theatre-in-the-Woods also provides a dramatic backdrop for outdoor performances.
Details of forthcoming performances, concerts and exhibitions are published each term in our Arts Brochure. For further information about forthcoming events listed in the Brochure or for details on how to book tickets please visit the Auden Theatre page.
Many of our pupils have gone on to Art, Drama or Music Colleges, many on Scholarships. Scholarships are available for entry to the Senior School in Year 9 and Lower Sixth.
