Co-curricular

Senior school > Co-curricular

From the moment pupils join the School in Year 9 there are a huge amount of opportunities on offer to get involved in and pupils benefit from a superb all-round education.

We have excellent sporting facilities on the campus and pupils can represent their School and House in fixtures in all sports across the year. The Auden Theatre and Britten Building occupy enviable locations on the School site and provide first class opportunities in both Drama and Music.

Pupils develop life-long skills through membership of the Combined Cadet Force and can participate in the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award from Bronze to Gold Level. We have thriving links with the local community where a number of projects are currently underway, our School Charity this year is the Holt Youth Project.

We have an enriching programme of extra-curricular activities through our GAPs programme (Gresham’s Activity Programme) and pupils can explore new opportunities and learn new skills. Pupils in Year 9 undertake a “Survival Skills” course with our own Head of Adventure and all pupils have access to the wonderful Woodland Activity Centre which has its own purpose built learning hut, assault course, high and low ropes course, climbing wall and zip wire. When possible we enjoy travelling overseas with recent trips to Sri Lanka for cricket and netball and to Kenya for our own environmental conservation project in the Maasai Mara.

We have 4 afternoons a week where the co-curriculum can operate in addition to mornings, lunchtimes and evening activities. The timetable is designed to allow maximum flexibility. For example on a Tuesday and Thursday afternoon we now offer the pupils the opportunity to play their sport for 90 minutes but also take part in another activity before Prep at 5.30pm. This can be a selection of anything from additional academic support, time for the top sports pupils to access further specialist support/rehab/strength and conditioning, pupils can attend academic colloquiums, drama/music rehearsals and ensembles and also career/UCAS seminars and the Year 9 Alpha group led by our Chaplain.

We truly believe that pupils here at Gresham’s have a wealth of opportunities to get involved in and that these help us offer a broad, varied and wonderful education. We aim and strive for positive participation, outstanding performance of pupils in the co-curriculum and provide the highest quality of co-curricular provision which pupils, parents and staff are fully supportive of and invested in.
