The Auden Society met to discuss English literature

This term, the Auden Society held their first meeting of the school year to kick-start what will hopefully be a regular evening allowing both current and future Sixth Form English pupils to share interesting ideas and develop their knowledge of different areas of English and literature by learning from one another. The first meeting had an attendance of sixteen pupils and was formed around general discussion rather than specific speakers. The tone of the evening was casual and sociable with light-hearted discussions and opinions on various Tennessee Williams characters, books that had been read over the summer and literature that interested the group, helped by the addition of drinks and snacks! For future meetings, the hope is to maintain a casual atmosphere but with more of a specific focus, getting together six speakers to share either a poem or a book of their choice or even better, discuss an interesting idea or question with the group. The Auden Society meets again in November.
