We have been selected as a finalist for Sporting Achievement
18 July 2021
We are delighted to have been selected as a finalist for Sporting Achievement in the Independent Schools of the Year 2021 awards. It is fantastic to recognise the hard work and achievements of our staff and pupils within sport during this academic year.
Sport has always been considered an integral part of education at Gresham’s and the School has earned an enviable reputation for the quality of its sport. We believe in educating the ‘whole person’ and seek to cultivate healthy and committed team players who value the importance of collaboration and leadership.
During this year, we have seen a number of successes over a range of sports. In the summer term, our cricket teams enjoyed great success. The U16 boys team won the Midland National Inspire Cup Final, the U15 girls won the semi-final of the County Cup and the U13A boys team were crowned Norfolk champions and won the Calder Cup.
Within shooting, pupils Toby, Tristan and Alex, and OG Ben had a brilliant time representing the Great Britain Under 19 Rifle Team on their tour of Scotland. Toby had incredible success, winning the Grand Aggregate and the NRA Silver Medal.
Boys’ tennis has had a great start to the season, winning their games against Norwich School and Cromer Tennis club. Our Senior girls first tennis team played Norwich School in the National Championships, with three matches being won on third set tie-breaks. Izzy, Annabel, Phoebe, Alice and Hattie won for the team, making them county champions.
We were so pleased to see Year 12 pupil, Callum, playing in the Leicester Tigers Academy team against Bath in May.
We have recently opened our newly fitted Performance Gym, which has created exciting opportunities for pupils to improve their health and fitness. Our new Strength and Conditioning Coaches are working with all pupils to promote ‘sport for all’.
