Gresham’s CCF Royal Navy cadets afloat for Field Days at Hickling Broad

Over two action-packed days, Gresham’s School CCF Royal Navy cadets enjoyed excellent sailing and powerboating opportunities while developing their skills on the water at Hickling Broad Sailing Club.

On Thursday 8th, the cadets were divided into groups according to their sailing experience and worked through the relevant stages of the RYA sailing syllabus, from 1 to Seamanship Skills. Six cadets also took part in powerboat taster sessions, gaining hands-on experience and progressing through elements of the RYA Powerboat Level 1 syllabus. Gusty conditions provided plenty of excitement and some fantastic sailing throughout the day.

On Friday, another group of cadets took to the water, again working in groups tailored to their ability levels. The challenging conditions continued to provide an engaging and rewarding training environment, allowing cadets to build confidence and develop their practical sailing skills.

A particular highlight of both days was the leadership shown by the cadets themselves. Activities were supported by cadet instructors, who planned and delivered sessions under the supervision of adult instructors. Their enthusiasm, responsibility and commitment played a key role in making the training both enjoyable and successful.

The two-days at Hickling provided valuable practical experience, strengthened existing skills and gave cadets the opportunity to enjoy time afloat while learning in a fun and supportive environment. Well done to all cadets and instructors involved for making the event such a success.
