Music

From an early age, in addition to encouraging creative thinking and teamwork, music education provides a fun environment for self-expression while rewarding children for hard work.

We strive to nurture talent in our pupils from an early age, and encourage the development of musical skills and knowledge through our well-structured programme of music education. Every child will experience the creative process of music-making and be encouraged in their aesthetic and emotional responses to music.

Gresham’s is an All-Steinway School which demonstrates a commitment to excellence by providing students and faculties with the best equipment possible for the study of music.

Lessons

Every year group in the school enjoys two weekly class music lessons, taught by our specialist class music teachers. As well as these classes, individual tuition is offered in the following instruments:

  • Piano
  • Flute
  • Clarinet
  • Guitar
  • Ukulele
  • Violin
  • Recorder
  • Trumpet
  • Trombone

Many pupils in the school play an instrument and many regularly take ABRSM or Trinity music exams. The lessons are taught by visiting music teachers who also teach at our Prep School, thus ensuring a sense of continuity when the child moves up from the Pre-Prep to the Prep School.

Ensembles

During the year, children have numerous opportunities to perform and share their musical talents, including our Mini Maestros concert. From the local church and our own school hall to the Auden Theatre and Britten Building at our Senior School, children experience a wide range of audiences and locations.
