Dance

Dance is a vibrant and valued part of the Performing Arts programme at Gresham’s Prep, providing pupils with opportunities to develop confidence, creativity, physical awareness and self-expression through an engaging and inspiring curriculum.

All pupils benefit from timetabled dance lessons taught by a specialist teacher, ensuring high-quality instruction and opportunities for every child to participate, progress and flourish.

Specialist Teaching

Dance at Gresham’s Prep is led by Lucy, an experienced and highly qualified dance educator with an extensive background in both professional performance and teaching.

Trained from an early age across a wide range of disciplines, including ballet, tap, contemporary, jazz, lyrical, street dance, acro and musical theatre, Lucy brings a breadth of knowledge and expertise to her role. Her professional experience includes stage productions, touring performances, television work, competitions and live events, providing pupils with valuable insight into the wider performing arts industry.

Alongside her performance career, Lucy has extensive experience teaching dance across all age groups and has successfully delivered Dance curricula at primary and secondary level, including GCSE and BTEC Dance programmes. She is a registered Licentiate Teacher with the International Dance Teachers’ Association (IDTA), enabling pupils to work towards recognised dance examinations and qualifications. Lucy is also currently undertaking further professional training to become an IDTA Examiner.

Lucy is also the Principal of Parallel Dance Studios, an award-winning dance school with an outstanding reputation for excellence. Under her leadership, students have progressed to prestigious performing arts institutions including Laine Theatre arts, The Hammond, Tring Park School for the Performing Arts and the Berlin International Dance Academy, while others have gone on to pursue professional careers in dance and musical theatre both in the UK and internationally.

Creativity, Technique and Performance

Pupils are introduced to a diverse range of dance styles and techniques, with lessons carefully structured to develop technical proficiency alongside creativity, musicality and performance skills.

Dance plays a significant role in school life, with pupils regularly participating in performances, productions and showcases that celebrate achievement, foster confidence and encourage a lifelong appreciation of the arts.

Through dance, pupils develop not only strong physical and artistic skills, but also resilience, discipline, collaboration and self-assurance—qualities that contribute positively to all areas of school life and beyond.
