Athletics

Athletics has a long history at Gresham’s. It is offered in the Summer Term, although cross country runs throughout the Michaelmas and Lent Terms.

Every summer, there are around 40 athletes that specialise in athletics across the year groups. They work with our Strength and Conditioning Coaches as well as our Athletics staff on their specified track or field event. We also cater for pupils looking to improve their general fitness and conditioning with a range of activities and challenges for them.

For many years, Gresham’s have hosted the North Norfolk Schools athletics competition and from this have taken around 25 athletes to represent Gresham’s at the Norfolk Schools’ Competition held at the University of East Anglia. This competition has brought the school a lot of success over the years with many athletes winning medals in their chosen events.

Gresham’s hosts a House relays competition for Year 9 and 10 pupils in the Summer Term where the athletes compete in a range of relays. Following on from this our final event of the summer is Sports Day where the houses compete for the inter house athletics cup. There are both junior and senior competitions and results are combined for the eventual winners.

Gresham’s Prep School produce some first class athletes with many winning Gold medals at the National Prep Schools’ Championships each year. These pupils then develop their skills further at the Senior, many of whom go on to represent Norfolk, East Schools and some achieving selection for the National Schools’ Championships at senior level.
