Year 12 take to the red carpet for Oscars-style ceremony

Year 12 enjoyed a superb day of filmmaking with One Day Film School’s follow up workshop ‘The Sequel’. Following expert instruction from The One Day Film School in camera technique, storytelling and production, pupils put their new skills into practice—first creating a three-shot film before progressing to the main 15-shot challenge.

Working collaboratively in production teams, pupils took on roles including script writer, director, camera operator and actor. Each group planned, filmed and edited an original movie of no more than three minutes, based on one of five classic storylines. The challenge required careful use of wide, medium and close-up shots, giving pupils an engaging, hands-on introduction to the creative and technical disciplines involved in bringing a story to the screen.

The day culminated in true Hollywood style as pupils dressed in their finery and arrived on the red carpet. After enjoying refreshments, they took their seats for a special Oscars ceremony, hosted and presented by Mr Chart-Boyles. Following a screening of all the films, awards were presented in six categories: Best Motion Picture, Best Performance, Best Technical Achievement, Best Staff Cameo, Best Location and Best Costume.

The overall winner of Best Motion Picture was Is All Memory Lost. The film will now go forward to the One Day Film School finalists’ panel, where it will be considered alongside entries from other schools taking part in the programme.

It was a fabulous celebration of creativity, teamwork and talent—and a memorable day and evening for everyone involved. Congratulations to all our Year 12 filmmakers and award winners, and the very best of luck to the team behind Is All Memory Lost!
