"Pupils are ambitious, keen and competent learners who feel they are being well prepared for the time when they leave school." 2010 Independent Schools Inspectorate Report

How is Entry Assessed?

Pre-Prep Nursery (3 – 8 years)

Children can join the Pre-Prep Nursery class in the Michaelmas (Autumn) and Spring Terms following their third birthday if places are available. Part or full time provision is offered. Admission into Reception is in the September following their fourth birthday.

There are no formal assessments, though we encourage those who join us to visit and spend a day with us, and prior to entry we seek reports and educational information from previous schools.

Prep School (8 – 13 years)

Entrants to the Prep School sit English and Maths assessments. Many children come to our Assessment Day which is held in January each year, but it is possible to sit the assessments at other times. If children live overseas we can send assessment papers to their current schools.

Senior School (13 – 18 years)

Year 9 (Third Form)

Students applying for Year 9 (Third Form) are invited to come in during the Lent (Spring) Term for an assessment day.

Written reports from the pupil’s current school and a reference are also used in the assessment process.

Further information can be obtained from Admissions: 01263 714614  or email

Please visit our scholarships and bursaries pages to find out more about Year 9 scholarships and assessment dates.

Sixth Form

Entry to the Sixth Form (Year 12) is by interview (Skype interviews can be arranged where necessary), school reports and a reference from the candidate’s current school.

Final acceptance depends on students gaining a minimum of six GCSE grades A*- B as well as a minimum of a C grade in Mathematics and English. Usually a minimum of a GCSE B grade is expected in a subject to be pursued in the Sixth Form.

Entry into any other school year group depends on the availability of places and will be considered following school reports, an interview, and assessments.

Students from overseas

Candidates applying from overseas will be considered on the basis of school reports, an interview, and assessments in maths and English. A reference may also be requested. Skype interviews are available. However, candidates and their families are encouraged to visit the School wherever possible.

If you decide to proceed with an application to any of our schools, we require a completed registration Form, together with a non-refundable Registration Fee of £170.
