The History Society met for the first time this academic year on Tuesday evening. Mr Kinder, Head of History, gave a presentation on four influential historians who attended Gresham’s as pupils: John Saltmarsh, Norman Cohn, Antony Copley and David Green.
The presentation shared research of their times at Gresham’s and reflected on the importance of their academic work in their various fields of specialism. David Green will be addressing the History Society in person in November.
On Saturday, we welcomed an OG side to play the football first team in a warmup match, which was competitive and entertaining from start to finish.
As the game started, the first team took the lead with an excellent goal from Tamim R, but the OGs were far from easy opposition and with several Year 11 players eager to impress, they came back into it when Spike C scored after good work from Ezra P on the wing.
The OGs then took a surprise lead, with Ezra turning from provider to goal scorer, although a strong passing move led to the second with Tamim curling in an excellent equaliser. Enjoying leading the line, another controlled finish from Tamim completed his hat trick and meant the score at half time was 3-2.
The second half saw a change in formation for the first team, and great work from James S led to him scoring on his debut, before Stevie C rocked the goal with a powerful finish for a 5-2 lead. The OGs continued to battle and the excellent Amir E-M, Toby C, Ezra P, Jack M and Toby M added quality and energy to their team. They refused to give up and this was rewarded when Ezra scored his second goal for the OGs, with a powerful rising shot to bring it back to 5-3.
After this, the first team stepped up a gear and Connor M scored a superb individual goal, before Will P chipped in with two goals himself to put the match beyond any doubt. Jude Philpott ended the scoring for the OGs, meaning the game finished 8-4 to the first team. This was a good test for our first fixture and the atmosphere between the sides was excellent. The A and B team now prepare for a tough block fixture against Felsted next Saturday.

We’re thrilled to announce that Gresham’s has been ranked 18th in the UK and 42nd globally for our International Baccalaureate Diploma results this summer!
This year, we achieved a 100% pass rate and our average points score was 37.2 out of a possible 45. Two pupils also secured a full 45-point score, placing them among the top 0.2% of global students.
These exceptional outcomes are a testament to the hard work, resilience, and ambition of our pupils, who have embraced the challenge of the IB Diploma and achieved remarkable success. Their results have opened doors to world-class universities across the UK and internationally, reflecting the breadth and depth of their learning.
This achievement is further proof of our academic strategy in action – a strategy rooted in innovation, high expectations, and a commitment to excellence. It also speaks volumes about the outstanding teaching and learning that defines the Gresham’s experience.

Recent 2024-25 Gresham’s leaver, and rising star of British shooting, Georgina Bohn, has claimed a stunning victory at the 2025 Guernsey Summer Open Meeting, securing the Grand Aggregate title in spectacular fashion.
Representing the Great Britain Under-19 Rifle Team, Georgina has been touring Guernsey as one of the top eight young shooters in the country. After leading the Grand Aggregate at the end of Day 1 with a near-perfect score of 105.17 out of 105.21, Bohn maintained her composure and consistency through to the final stages of competition.
With just two shoots remaining on the final morning, 500 yards and 600 yards, both consisting of 2 sighters and 15 shots to count, Georgina pulled off a remarkable performance. In the 500-yard Castella, she posted an outstanding 75.12v, opening up a six-point lead heading into the final range.
The last leg of the competition saw a nail-biting finish between Bohn and her closest rival, Alexander Stewart of the Guernsey Rifle Club, with only 4 points ultimately separating them. But it was Bohn who held firm under pressure to claim the 2025 Grand Aggregate title, confirming her place among the nation’s most promising young talents. Overall, Georgina scored 598.84, dropping just 7 points out of a possible 605!
This latest achievement follows her impressive appearance at the Imperial Meeting at Bisley in July, where she was the youngest competitor in the King’s Prize Final, finishing 63rd out of the 100 finalists (over 900 competitors started in the competition).
Gresham’s A level pupils are celebrating having achieved some exceptional results today. At A level, 43% were graded at A* or A, well above the national average of 28%, while 88% were graded A*-C, continuing the trend set by last year’s cohort.
Pupils are also celebrating the School’s best ever BTEC results. An incredible 43% achieved the highest Distinction Starred grade, a huge increase from last year’s 13%.
Universities have been quick to offer our pupils places with 98% immediately securing their firm or insurance choices. This year, Old Greshamians will be heading off to study in all parts of the UK and around the world including Bath, Birmingham, Bristol, Cambridge, Cardiff Met, Coventry, Derby, Durham, Edinburgh, Exeter, Glasgow, Kingston, Leeds, Lincoln, London Met, Loughborough, Manchester, Newcastle, Nottingham, Oxford Brookes, Reading, Sheffield, Southampton, UCL, UEA, York, Switzerland, and the USA.
Pupils have also secured places at top specialist institutions such as the Royal Academy of Music, Harper Adams, Norwich University of the Arts, and the Royal Agricultural College, as well as a wide range of degree apprenticeships.
These successes continue the outstanding academic momentum set by Gresham’s IB cohort who received their results earlier in the summer.
This summer’s outcomes are a true testament to our Sixth Form pupils’ consistent hard work, as well as the outstanding support they have received with their studies from their teachers, tutors, Heads of House, the pastoral, support and SEND teams, and their families.

On Saturday 28 June 2025, we held our annual Speech Day event to celebrate the work and achievements from our 2024-25 leavers. It was an exceptionally warm day, as staff, pupils and parents gathered in our woodland amphitheatre.
Headmaster, Mr Robb, opened the ceremony, and our Heads of School, Emily M, and Albert W, presented their reports for 2024/25, after which Chairman of Governors, Paul Marriage introduced our guest speaker.
We were thrilled to welcome member of parliament and former president of the National Farmers’ Union, Baroness Batters, who went on to present pupils with prizes.
On Monday 19 May, two new wall rugs were unveiled at the bottom of the stairs in the Dyson Building.
A number of pupils and teachers were on hand to see the unveiling. The fabulous pieces of art were designed by Year 10 pupils Lachlan M and Miriam G, expertly made by the Deirdre Dyson Carpet company, and commissioned by one of the School’s most generous art benefactors – the Sir Colin Anderson Memorial Trust.
For more than forty years, the Sir Colin Anderson Memorial Trust has commissioned multiple pieces of art for the School, including the bouncing ball structure by the Parade Ground, the Auden and Britten stone pillars by the Chapel and behind the Auden Theatre, and the stone hand that lives outside the Cairns Centre, to name but just a few.
Last academic year, members of the Trust asked Year 9 pupils to come up with designs for two new wall rugs to be hung inside the building and that reflected the STEAM subjects. There proved to be stiff competition, with many interesting designs being submitted. In the end, Lachlan and Miriam’s colourful designs were chosen.
The School extends its sincere thanks to the trustees of the Sir Colin Anderson Memorial Trust for their loyal and generous support, as well as its congratulations to both Lachlan and Miriam for coming up with two fantastic designs that will forever be displayed in the Dyson Building.
On Monday, we wrapped up our final Academic Enrichment talk of the year for our Year 13 pupils before they head into the Easter break and exam season. We were delighted to welcome Charlotte Davey and OG Frankie Sutton from Succession Wealth to share their career journeys and industry insights.
Charlotte, Strategy and Propositions Director, gave an insightful talk about her role and how her career pathway has been anything but linear—showing pupils that there are many different routes to success beyond school. Both Charlotte and Frankie highlighted the wealth of opportunities available in the financial sector, offering great encouragement to our pupils as they consider their next steps.
We look forward to working together to set up a financial and investment workshop in the future.
The Gresham’s Foundation will launch its second ever giving day on the 12th and 13th of March 2025. Gresham’s Giving Day 2025 will be another opportunity for the School community (Old Greshamians, current and former parents and Friends) to come together to celebrate what makes Gresham’s special and donate to help widen access to a Gresham’s education.
Similar to the first giving day in 2023, the campaign will focus on promoting and seeking support for the School’s Bursary Programme. Supporting young people and their families who require bursarial provision is a longstanding and key charitable objective at the School and has been since its founding in 1555. Donations to the Foundation’s Bursary Fund before and during Gresham’s Giving Day 2025 will make a difference and give young people the chance to attend the School and make the most of a Gresham’s education.

On the last day of Half Term, the Rifle Club competed in its annual small-bore fixture against the Old Gresham’s Rifle Team.
There was a great turn out with an equally impressive spread of ages. The top shot in the match was current NRA Imperial Meeting Grand Aggregate winner, Chloe E (OG), scoring a hugely impressive 195/200. The final match score was 1498 for the OG team and 1455 for the Gresham’s Rifle Club.
The match concluded with everyone shooting a ‘Rapid Shoot’, of 10 shots in 90 seconds – a challenge that is much trickier than it sounds. This year, Grace S won with a fantastic score of 96/100, shooting a ’6’ with her last shot, just as the 90 seconds came to an end.
After the match, both teams enjoyed an excellent lunch in the local pub and the OGs were able to share stories from their time at Gresham’s with the current team.
