Gresham’s was delighted to welcome back to school last Friday BAFTA award-winning actress and Golden Globe winner Olivia Colman (O, 1990-92) to officially open the new building at Oakeley.
Olivia attended Gresham’s from 1991 to 1992 and was a boarder in Oakeley. During her visit, Olivia went on a tour of the new House and then enjoyed a short, informal concert followed by a tea party in the new Common Room. The Oakeley girls were thrilled to welcome such a lovely guest to their “home”. Olivia spent two hours chatting with the girls and reminiscing about her school days at Gresham’s. She was delighted to catch up with Fiona Gathercole who was the resident House Tutor in Oakeley when she was a pupil there and, of course, Mr Paul Hands who was Director of Drama.
This is the second time in the last four years that Olivia has visited the school, in 2014, she returned to meet pupils, speak about her career and offer advice to those seeking to follow a career in acting.
To mark her visit, Olivia unveiled a slate plaque in the Common Room, which includes the following words ‘Olivia Colman OG who played Miss Jean Brodie at an impressionable age and never looked back’; she certainly hasn’t!
