Year 11 pupils celebrate top-tier GCSE results

Continuing the academic momentum set earlier in the summer by our pupils’ superb IB, A level and BTEC outcomes, Gresham’s GCSE pupils are also celebrating fantastic results.

This year, nearly 40% of pupils’ grades are at the highest 9/8 level, a 7.5% increase on 2024, while our 96.5% grade 9-4 pass rate continues to defy the national trend (which fell again this year to 67.4%).

87 pupils have managed to achieve at least one coveted grade 9 or 8 this year, showing that this cohort of Greshamians have been recognised for their talents across the full breadth of subjects on offer.

Particular successes include Kyla C, James C and Lottie H who achieved a grade 9 or 8 across all 11 subjects, while Polly H, Amelie H and Freddie L all secured 10 GCSEs at the top two grades.

Congratulations to the whole Year 11 cohort on their hard work this summer, and a huge thank you to their teachers and parents for supporting them so well.

Georgina Bohn crowned Grand Aggregate champion 2025

Recent 2024-25 Gresham’s leaver, and rising star of British shooting, Georgina Bohn, has claimed a stunning victory at the 2025 Guernsey Summer Open Meeting, securing the Grand Aggregate title in spectacular fashion.

Representing the Great Britain Under-19 Rifle Team, Georgina has been touring Guernsey as one of the top eight young shooters in the country. After leading the Grand Aggregate at the end of Day 1 with a near-perfect score of 105.17 out of 105.21, Bohn maintained her composure and consistency through to the final stages of competition.

With just two shoots remaining on the final morning, 500 yards and 600 yards, both consisting of 2 sighters and 15 shots to count, Georgina pulled off a remarkable performance. In the 500-yard Castella, she posted an outstanding 75.12v, opening up a six-point lead heading into the final range.

The last leg of the competition saw a nail-biting finish between Bohn and her closest rival, Alexander Stewart of the Guernsey Rifle Club, with only 4 points ultimately separating them. But it was Bohn who held firm under pressure to claim the 2025 Grand Aggregate title, confirming her place among the nation’s most promising young talents. Overall, Georgina scored 598.84, dropping just 7 points out of a possible 605!

This latest achievement follows her impressive appearance at the Imperial Meeting at Bisley in July, where she was the youngest competitor in the King’s Prize Final, finishing 63rd out of the 100 finalists (over 900 competitors started in the competition).

Outstanding A level results, and School’s best ever BTEC outcomes from 2025 cohort

Gresham’s A level pupils are celebrating having achieved some exceptional results today. At A level, 43% were graded at A* or A, well above the national average of 28%, while 88% were graded A*-C, continuing the trend set by last year’s cohort.

Pupils are also celebrating the School’s best ever BTEC results. An incredible 43% achieved the highest Distinction Starred grade, a huge increase from last year’s 13%.

Universities have been quick to offer our pupils places with 98% immediately securing their firm or insurance choices. This year, Old Greshamians will be heading off to study in all parts of the UK and around the world including Bath, Birmingham, Bristol, Cambridge, Cardiff Met, Coventry, Derby, Durham, Edinburgh, Exeter, Glasgow, Kingston, Leeds, Lincoln, London Met, Loughborough, Manchester, Newcastle, Nottingham, Oxford Brookes, Reading, Sheffield, Southampton, UCL, UEA, York, Switzerland, and the USA.

Pupils have also secured places at top specialist institutions such as the Royal Academy of Music, Harper Adams, Norwich University of the Arts, and the Royal Agricultural College, as well as a wide range of degree apprenticeships.

These successes continue the outstanding academic momentum set by Gresham’s IB cohort who received their results earlier in the summer

This summer’s outcomes are a true testament to our Sixth Form pupils’ consistent hard work, as well as the outstanding support they have received with their studies from their teachers, tutors, Heads of House, the pastoral, support and SEND teams, and their families.

We wish them every success with wherever their Gresham’s education now takes them!

Gresham’s Rifle Team takes 3rd place at Bisley on Ashburton Day

The team had a steady start on the range during Monday’s practice session. It had been a full year since any of the team last shot the Cadet Target Rifle and they were competing against the Berkshire and Surrey Schools who shoot at Bisley two or three times a week during the Summer Term, which naturally gave them the upper hand.

The Gresham’s team worked incredibly hard, in particularly warm and humid conditions. They used Tuesday and Wednesday to improve as a team and to work hard on their shooting in the testing conditions. Alastair S and Margie G did particularly well, coming 2nd and 3rd respectively, in the 300-yard shoot. Alastair also finished 9th, with Bella B 10th, in the Cadet 100 Aggregate. As a team, they were improving all the time, but by Wednesday night, it was looking like a big ask if the team were going to be in contention in the Ashburton Shield.

The team always head off camp on the Wednesday evening and spend an hour walking around Brookwood War Cemetery. This tradition offers the pupils an opportunity to get away from the madness of the previous days of shooting and to take a moment to reflect.

Ashburton day started fantastically well with Marcella B coming 2nd in the Reserve shoot and the VIII winning the first distance of the day, at 300 yards. A great start saw Gresham’s take the lead early on. The winners of the 300-yard shoot received the ‘Kinder’ trophy.

The team continued to shoot to the very best of their ability at the next two distances, but conditions were hard for all teams. At 500 yards, the final distance, the heavens opened just as shooting started. Gresham’s, and the eventual winners, Wellington, both took the decision to delay their start and to wait for the down poor to pass. It was a decision that most likely paid off for both teams. Gresham’s Rifle Team eventually finished in 3rd place in the Ashburton Shield, with Epsom 2nd and Wellington winners.

It was an exceptional performance by the Gresham’s team and every single member of the team were fantastic. Georgie B led from the front, ably assisted by Henry J and Margie G. Gresham’s were a young team, with Bella B and Morgana M both shooting in the VIII.

The team should be immensely proud of what they have achieved and how they have conducted themselves both on and off the range.

In other news, Norfolk (mostly made up of Old Greshamians), won the King George V to become the top county in England. OGRE (Old Gresham’s Rifle Establishment) also won the Astor, making them the leading rifle club in the UK. Norfolk, OGRE, and Gresham’s are currently at the top in both full-bore and small-bore Target Rifle shooting across the country.

Sports Day 2025

Class of 2025 achieve exceptional IB results

Gresham’s is delighted to announce exceptional results for our 2025 IB Diploma Programme cohort. Pupils once again achieved a 100% pass rate and our average points score was 37.2 out of a possible 45, significantly higher than the rolling global average, and our second highest ever in 18 years of offering the IB Diploma Programme!

64% of examinations were awarded a Level 6 or 7, equivalent to an A or A* at A Level. 41% of our pupils achieved a world class score of 40 points or above (the equivalent of 4 A* grades), a feat achieved by fewer than 10% of pupils across the world. Our Deputy Head of School, Eva O’D, who has been at Gresham’s for 15 years, and one of our international pupils from Germany, Hendrik B, both secured a full 45-point score, placing them among the top 0.2% of global students.

We are incredibly proud of all our IB pupils and would like to congratulate them on their impressive successes. Alongside their IB studies, this cohort have made outstanding contributions to music, drama, sport, debating and many other co-curricular activities during their time at Gresham’s.

We wish our IB pupils every success and congratulate them on meeting the entry requirements of a wide range of destinations, including Bath, Durham, KCL, UCL and international destinations such as Navarre and Boston, and top universities in Germany and the Netherlands.

Pete Free appointed as Director of Cricket

We are delighted to announce Pete Free as our next Director of Cricket. Pete will be taking the reins from Grant Morgan, who will be returning to South Africa after two successful seasons.

Pete is no stranger to Norfolk and Schools cricket, and brings many years of experience in coaching young people and developing cricket programmes for the Norfolk Cricket Foundation.

“I am incredibly excited to be joining Gresham’s as Director of Cricket. There is a great tradition at the school of producing some incredibly talented players, and I intend to carry on that tradition, working with the players and dedicated staff. It’s a fantastic opportunity to help shape future players on their individual pathways in such an inspirational environment. In an exciting new chapter of my own and Gresham’s future, I will bring real energy, fun, passion and drive for the next generation of Gresham’s cricketers.”

We look forward to welcoming Pete in September and we are excited for him to get started right away, building on what has been a fantastic season for us. This year, our U13 boys and girls, U14 boys, and U15 girls all won their respective County Cups.

Cricket is a major sport and passion at Gresham’s, with a significant number of pupils playing throughout the year. They benefit from excellent coaching and outstanding facilities.

We are continually reviewing and improving our cricket programme and look forward to enhancing it further under Pete’s leadership.

Pupils kick off summer with activity adventure days

A group of pupils kicked off their summer break in high spirits, taking part in a variety of adventurous activity days designed to get them outdoors and active.

Some went to Thetford Forest and enjoyed a day on the mountain biking trails, while others completed courses in powerboating and sailing, including some advanced level modules, at Hickling Broad. They were accompanied by (mostly) blue skies and beautiful sunshine – the perfect conditions for getting outside and being active.

Speech Day 2025

On Saturday 28 June 2025, we held our annual Speech Day event to celebrate the work and achievements from our 2024-25 leavers. It was an exceptionally warm day, as staff, pupils and parents gathered in our woodland amphitheatre.

Headmaster, Mr Robb, opened the ceremony, and our Heads of School, Emily M, and Albert W, presented their reports for 2024/25, after which Chairman of Governors, Paul Marriage introduced our guest speaker.

We were thrilled to welcome member of parliament and former president of the National Farmers’ Union, Baroness Batters, who went on to present pupils with prizes.

U13 boys’ end phenomenal season with recording-breaking win

The U13 boys’ cricket team delivered another impressive performance, this time in the U13 County Cup Final, held at Gresham’s on Wednesday.

Gresham’s won the toss and decided to bat, opening with the two best players and co-captains, Finley S and Oli C. Both boys batted brilliantly for the whole 20 overs, ending with both Finley (114 not out) and Oli (103 not out) making centuries and amassing a whopping 248 for 0. This was Finley’s first, but Oli’s third hundred of the season for the school.

The partnership of 248 between Finley and Oli is a Prep School record, and made in just 20 overs; it is a benchmark that is very unlikely to ever be broken.

This was an incredible way to end a phenomenal season for the U13A boys. They were unbeaten in all matches against school sides on Gresham’s circuit, only losing to The Perse in the National Cup in the early weeks of the term.
